Have you ever gotten e-mail SPAM addressed from yourself?
Real Time Block Lists (RBL) are used to protect the Exchange Server from delivering a form of SPAM known as spoofing. The RBL checks each e-mail that is addressed to the domain against their list of known spammers and prevents those e-mails from getting through.
E-mail address spoofing is done in quite the same way as a writing a forged return address using snail mail. As long as the letter fits the protocol, (ie. stamp, postal code) the SMTP protocol will send the message. It can be done using a mail server with telnet.
This link provides instruction on how to enable real time block list filtering in the Exchange Server system manager.
